Decarbonisation

FOR ORGANISATIONS

AND INDIVIDUALS

Understanding and Planning Decarbonisation is a stimulating whistle stop tour of key climate change concepts and recommended lifestyle changes for organisations and individuals.
Fewer and fewer people these days are climate change ‘deniers’. Most of us accept what the science tells us – that human activity, especially the burning of fossil fuels, is a root cause of global warming. So the question has moved on from ‘is climate change happening’ to: ‘what are we going to do about it ?

INTRODUCING

DECARBONISATION

Can you identify the following gases ?  CO2 | CH4  | N2O. Did you know that there are a total of eight different gases that are collectively referred to as Greenhouse Gases (GHG) ?

The Understanding and Planning Decarbonisation course is an introduction to GHG and how the create climate change and global warming. We introduce the concepts of Net-Zero, carbon footprints, carbon audits and carbon accounting. We look at ways in which emissions data is collected and analysed to assess the total tCO2e produced by organisations and households and we offer examples of simple things that we can all do to reduce emissions through a planned programme of decarbonisation.  It’s fast paced two hour programme.

Understanding and Planning Decarbonisation is available using the Blue Marble Digital Learning Platform – perfect for organisations that don’t have their own LMS and for individuals – or as a plug and play SCORM asset authored in Articulate RISE 360. This will drop straight into most commonly used LMS. In both cases learning content includes video learning, interactive exercises, case studies and examples, knowledge checks and quizz.

The Importance of Decarbonisation in the Fight Against Climate Change

Decarbonisation is a process of reducing carbon emissions in order to combat climate change. It involves transitioning away from fossil fuels and towards renewable energy sources, as well as implementing energy efficiency measures. In this article, we will explore the importance of decarbonisation and its potential impact on the environment.
What is decarbonisation?

Decarbonisation is the process of reducing carbon emissions in order to combat climate change. This involves transitioning away from fossil fuels, which are major contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, and towards renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydro power. It also involves implementing energy efficiency measures, such as improving insulation in buildings and using more efficient appliances. Decarbonisation is a critical step in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating the effects of climate change.

Why is decarbonisation important in the fight against climate change?

Decarbonisation is important in the fight against climate change because it is necessary to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, trap heat in the atmosphere and contribute to global warming. The burning of fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and gas, is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions. By transitioning to renewable energy sources and implementing energy efficiency measures, we can reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and decrease our carbon footprint. Decarbonisation is a critical step in mitigating the effects of climate change and ensuring a sustainable future for our planet.

What are some strategies for decarbonisation?

There are several strategies for decarbonisation, including transitioning to renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydropower, implementing energy efficiency measures in buildings and transportation, and reducing waste and consumption. Governments can also implement policies such as carbon pricing and regulations on emissions from industries. Additionally, individuals can make changes in their daily lives such as reducing meat consumption, using public transportation or electric vehicles, and reducing energy usage in their homes. It will take a collective effort from governments, businesses, and individuals to achieve decarbonisation and combat climate change.

What role can individuals and businesses play in decarbonisation efforts?

Individuals and businesses can play a crucial role in decarbonisation efforts. On an individual level, people can reduce their carbon footprint by making small changes in their daily lives, such as using public transportation, reducing meat consumption, and using energy-efficient appliances. Businesses can also implement sustainable practices, such as using renewable energy sources, reducing waste, and implementing energy-efficient technologies. Additionally, businesses can advocate for policies that support decarbonisation efforts, such as carbon pricing and renewable energy incentives. By working together, individuals and businesses can make a significant impact in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating the effects of climate change.
